Console Vault Announces Release of #SafeTravels Podcast

Console Vault is excited to launch its new #SafeTravels Expert Interview Series Podcast! The Safe Travels Campaign is a safe firearm storage and education initiative with the goals of amplifying the voices of safety training and firearm training advocates and spreading public awareness on responsible gun safety and ownership measures.
Episodes will feature interviews led by Console Vault President, Scott Bonvissuto, and in this inaugural episode he interviews Lieutenant Karl Haverland of the Austin City Texas Police Department. Lt. Haverland discusses his own safe firearm storage education initiative in Austin, as well as challenges, trends, and opportunities related to gun theft and crime.
Upcoming episodes will include discussions with Brian Anderson Needham, Self Defense Instructor at Weapon Brand Training, and Robyn Sandoval, Executive Director of A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League.
For this first episode, here are some of the key points covered:
- Lieutenant Haverland initiated a public awareness campaign in Austin focusing on safe firearm storage to combat rising gun thefts from vehicles
- Haverland emphasizes the need for firearm owners to protect their guns like they would their personal information to prevent theft and misuse
- The Lieutenant faced challenges in effectively communicating his campaign’s message due to media editing that underplayed safe storage information
- There is a noticeable increase in vehicle break-ins targeting firearms specifically, as thieves often ignore other valuables, highlighting the importance of having effective and secure in-vehicle storage
- Haverland reports that Austin faced an 18% increase in weapon law violations and a 5% rise in vehicle burglary crimes in 2022
- The absence of safe places to leave firearms in vehicles without outside solutions is problematic, as criminals can target vehicles at any time and gain access to valuables
- Haverland encourages listeners to obtain information on gun safety from reliable sources like the National Shooting Sports Foundation and the NRA
- The collaboration between Haverland’s campaign and Console Vault aims to enhance public awareness about securing firearms in vehicles effectively
