Structurally strong, attractive black crackle-enamel finished, Thick steel; Lid easily stays up when opened. Encountered difficulties during installation: (1) Lid assembly tricky to maneuver into place (my 2014 F-150 Lariat has built-in module at front of its console with A/V jacks, SD card slot, USB ports and 12V power point > see photo); and (2) the "X" Bracket was a Very, VERY tight fit (required a non-marring rubber-covered tool handle to push hard at the bottom corner of my console so the last point of the "X" could be snapped down into place). The Rear L-Bracket blocks interior LED light in my console (perhaps Console Vault could offer a lid Latch-actuated, coin cell battery operated LED bar accessory to fit this 1026-KL model Vault). The Front L-bracket & flange nut were provided but couldn't be installed because of the module mentioned above, but the attachments between the Lid assembly and the three other Brackets, plus the 4-point attachment of the "X" bracket should prove strong enough, I'd think. There is no significant loss of space down inside my console, but the flange around the Lid must fit underneath the flange of the console along all four edges (so it cannot be removed by force after its installed) so there is some lost of depth, and the Ford-provided plastic accessory tray no longer will fit. Not a big deal, as I can use the space on top of the Console Vault lid for gloves, a flashlight, and I'm thinking of keeping a plastic sleeve in there with my vehicle registration & proof of insurance, rather than in the harder-to-reach glovebox. Overall, I'm very pleased with this Console Vault product! P.S. if the 3-number dial on its lock could have larger wheels and easier to read digits that would be another design improvement
